I define San Diego as a laid back, low-key city. This may come as a surprise to some who stereotype the West Coast to be filled with plastic, pre-madonna’s. Although that may be true of some California cities, I find that San Diego is more of a chill beach town. For most San Diegans a typical night out means beach front bar hoping, beer festivals, and small bites at local restaurants. I’ve found that when it comes to a night out I much prefer hanging around these dress code free spots. Unless a really good DJ is playing at one of the clubs, of course!! I’m sure everyones standard of casual is different than mine, but for me, if I’m in jeans then, I’m dressed casual.
My going out outfit usually goes as follows: jeans, cute top, heels. If I’m out in one of the beach towns I like to go more casual, I swap out dark jeans for lighter ones, and stilettos for wedges. My go-to jeans are from Zara, they have a mega stretch to them that make them comfortable and moveable like jeggings. I wear them all the time! However, for this look I wore these amazing, destroyed boyfriend jeans from American Eagle. I’ve had them forever!
Here are the 4 things I reach for when picking out my outfit….
1 . Crossbody Bag: I hate holding things when I’m out and about! It’s annoying enough that I already have to have my phone in my hand a lot, I don’t want a clutch in the other hand. No one can dance like that! Plus, you don’t want to be putting your purse down on dirty bar tops. My go to bag is by Coccinelle, I purchased it in Italy and use it almost everyday! Apparently, I’m also too lazy to always switch my stuff from bag to bag! Here are some of my favorite crossbody bags under $100. I kept them plain and simple so that they’ll go with everything!
2. Dressy-ish top: Something with embroidery or sparkle is always a good idea. I like to have my top be the center piece of my outfit. For this look I wore a sheer, beaded top from Urban Outfitters. I wore a black bralette underneath to contrast the top. Both piece are oldies.
3. Jeans: I’m not huge on shorts or skirts, so when I’m headed out I’m either in jeans or a dress. Since it’s been warmer lately I lean towards cropped jeans.
4. A COMFY heel: Surprisingly the stilettos I’m wearing are really comfortable. However, thicker heeled shoes or wedges are always better for going out. You never know if all the seats are going to be taken, or when a dance party is going to break out, either way be prepared to be on your feet a lot!
