Happy Friday everyone! Today I’m switching it up a little bit to talk about the best purchase I made for my blog and why it’s important to invest in a good camera. Literally every post I read about creating a good blog/ Instagram said pictures are key. Makes complete sense, we are in a visual business in a visual world. In order to even compete with top bloggers and get people to look at your blog you need to have quality photos. On Instagram you can get away with Iphone picture but it’s a lot more difficult when you start stretching those photos to fit a webpage, especially if your editing them. I only have one outfit post on my blog with Iphone quality photos and I can easily pick it out (can you ;)??). You may not need your own ‘real camera’ if your hire a photographer but that can get expensive and having a good camera plus a close friend or spouse allows you to do pictures any time, any where. Even if you’re not a blogger start capturing your life in photos that you’ll want to keep around forever.
When I was camera shopping the idea of starting a blog was still ruminating in my mind but I thought, regardless, that it was time to invest in something to capture life in general whether or not I was sharing it with the world. I went to Best Buy one day in hopes of looking at a few cameras I had found on Amazon and when doing research. After talking to the camera specialist at Best Buy I was sold on the Sony a6000. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up buying it from Best Buy because Amazon had a great package deal where I got the camera + camera case + memory card + extra battery for the exact same price as just the camera at Best Buy.
The whole thing ran me $704.77. Not to bad for a starter camera.
I went for a mirrorless camera because it is much lighter and less bulky than a DSLR. Before this camera search I was unaware of the abilities of a mirrorless camera but after lots of research I found they have abilities quite similar to that of a DSLR. The only possible downfall of a mirrorless camera is their is a lower variety lenses but I think that would only be a concern for a professional photographer. I really like the mirrorless because it’s light and easy to travel with.
Some of my favorite features this camera are….
- World’s fastest autofocus (0.06 seconds) AND 11 frames per second: Although this may sound like a feature someone shooting sports would enjoy more than a fashion blogger this feature has come in handy when shooting outfits. This feature allows me to move and twirl and walk while we shoot away. I usually end up with 568927864 pictures to filter through but its worth it to capture that 1 perfect movement or facial expression.
- Wi-Fi and Remote Shooting Embedded: This was #1 on my list when shopping for a camera. With Wi-Fi I’m able to move pictures off my camera into my phone anywhere, anytime, meaning they make it to Instagram in the moment. The Wi-Fi also allows you to use your phone as a remote control. I like to set the camera up on my tripod and then I use my phone as a remote to shoot selfies.
- Screens and Viewfinders: The camera has a gorgeous 3” LCD screen on the back that tilts both up and down so you can see what your shooting no matter how you’re holding the camera. The viewfinder is absolutely gorgeous when you look into it it looks as if your watching a movie. You can see the entire field of coverage perfectly as if your looking at any LCD monitor.
- Superior Auto is All You Need: Well, at least its all need, the superior auto function does an amazing job adjusting to any situation. I don’t know much about manual mode yet, although I’m hoping to learn, but for now it’s nice that this camera has so many auto features that still take beautiful photos.
I’m sure that a tech genius could go way more in depth about how amazing this camera is but this is where knowledge ends. I will say that for the price the Sony a6000 is a very competent camera and I did tons of research so I can confidently say that this camera is no joke. I’ve even seen it compared to much more expensive cameras and hold it’s own. This camera has been great for me and for my blog and I highly recommend that anyone who is looking into blogging should invest is some sort of high end camera.
I hope you all found this article helpful and regardless if you’re a blogger or not start capturing your life!
