For the past few months I have been trying really hard to take better care of my skin. When I was growing up I never learned about the importance of skincare and buying high end products was portrayed to me as a waste of money. Truthfully, there were points where my acne was so bad that I had completely given up on skincare. I thought, why waste the money? It seemed my skin was never going to get better and I got tired of breaking out every time I tried something new. Now, post Accutane and quiet a bit of money and effort to get my skin where its at, I’m dedicating myself to a better skincare routine. My skincare is no longer focused around acne but preserving my skin and keeping it healthy. I kick myself everyday for not getting started on a better regime earlier, acne or not, there are products out there for everyone and skin issues don’t have to be permanent.
In my attempt to try out a few types of products and brands I started buying sets, often you can get a great deal on these at Sephora. First of all, I’ve become obsessed with masks- like why did I not use masks before, no wonder my skin hated me. I’ve been using masks 1-2 times a week now (more to come on this soon!) and I’ve seen serious improvement in the texture and hydration of my skin in the last few months. Today, I want to talk about my Ole Henriksen ‘Love It All’ blockbuster skincare set, as it has been one of my favorite skincare purchases. This set is going to run you $59 and I’ve had it for about 2 months now and I have plenty of product left. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like the set is currently being sold, however, I’m sure it’ll be back around the holidays and you can still buy the individual products!
Why I love this set overall: It’s just that, a complete set, it give you a skin care regime from start to finish without the need for add ons (at the basic level at least). Skin care was so overwhelming to me because there is so much out there and I had no idea what to buy or what to put on when. With this set you can go from makeup removing to masking. From this process I’m noticing what my skin likes/ need more of or could do without. I now feel more confident about what types of products I should be looking for as I grow my skincare collection.
My skin type: Dry-Normal (I still get a lot of dryness from being on Accutane)
Here’s what comes in the box…
The Clean Truth Cleansing Clothes: I quickly powered through these as they only give you 10 in the box and I had to use one everyday to remove my makeup. They did a great job at removing my makeup. After using the cloths my skin felt refreshed and even a little moisturized. My skin felt clean after using these so if I was really lazy I could probably skip washing my face altogether. I’d like to try using these in the morning to provide brightness before putting on my makeup. Bottom Line: Would purchase again but my Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes get the job done for less (I currently use them every night).
African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser: This cleanser has a light and fluffy foam that feels soft on your skin. I barely have to use any product to wash my whole face. That being said I only feel ‘deep cleaned’ when using this cleanser if I first use a makeup wipe to remove the bulk of my makeup. The lemony citrus scent of the soap does makes me feel refreshed. Personally, I have not had any skin irritations since using this product but it can be slightly drying. After use my skin is left feeling smooth and soft. Bottom Line: Good cleanser but I’m not ready to marry it.
Sheer Transform Moisturizer: I’ve been using this morning and night over my face and a neck, it’s a great light weight moisturizer than can be easily worn under makeup. It leaves my skin feeling healthy, glowing and moisturized. The best part is you only need about a pea size to cover your face. I had never used a whipped moisturizer like this and now I’m hooked. Bottom Line: One of the best products in the set, would buy again.
Truth Serum Collagen Booster: I know I’m pretty young but I have been wanting to try anti-aging products for quiet some time now as a method of preventative care. That being said this is my first experience with a collagen booster. I find this serum to be a little sticky, when it dries on my face I can feel tightening but also dryness. So far, I’ve noticed a pronounced wrinkle on my forehead diminishing. Tip: pat it on your face and let it dry, don’t rub! Botton Line: Gets the job done, but I don’t have anything to compare it to.
Ultimate Lift Eye Gel: I haven’t used this product much because, again, eye lifting isn’t a major concern for me. When I have used it it left my under eyes sticky and dry. I felt the need to either add a moisturizer or wash it off. Bottom Line: Won’t be buying but maybe I’ll give what I have left another chance?
Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask: My favorite thing in this package! I use this whenever I feel like my skin needs it because it comes in handy at all times! For example, I’ve been going tanning a few times a week, today after tanning I took a shower and then put this mask on. When I rinsed it off all the dead skin from tanning had been exfoliated off and my skin was left feeling hydrated, bright and refreshed. I love how soft and even my skin is after using this mask! Although it exfoliates it never irritates me. UGHHH I just can’t get over how healthy my skin looks after using it just once. Bottom Line: BUY BUY BUY!
Me with Truth Sugar Mask on and a Glam Glow Spot Treatment.
Tip: If you having a really dry skin day (like I have) put on Josie Marin Argan Oil after using this mask and go makeup free all day and girl your skin will be so replenished. I got hooked on using Argan Oil at least a few times a week after Sephora sent me a sample. Putting oil on acne prone skin was daunting for me but I’m loving the results. If your still suffering from acne don’t be scared to try new things like I was!
Rub n’ Buff Scrub: This is another product I’ve been using after tanning, while in the shower once a week I’ll exfoliate my whole body with this. The good thing is that you don’t need a lot to go a long way. This scrub did leave my skin feeling soft and hydrated but, I felt the product dissolved quickly as I applied it so I couldn’t get a deep exfoliation. Bottom Line: Love the smell, wouldn’t buy again because of the $$$.
Power Bright: Power bright is a three step system designed to provide professional strength brightening at home. It says for best results to do three times a week however in this set they only gave me one use so I don’t know if I got everything out of it. However, after just once use my skin did look great. It was visibly brighter and felt super soft and smooth. I loved how on the products smelt and felt on my skin. It seems like a great alternative to a professional facial. Bottom Line: Excellent product but if you want to save money just use the Glow Polishing Mask
This kit is pretty much my entire skin care routine right now and I’m definitely seeing results. In addition to combat dryness I use the Glam Glow Hydrating mask, I love leaving this on over night and just rubbing in the excess in the morning. And, as mentioned, I’ve been loving the Pure Argan Oil and Whipped Argan Oil from Josie Maran when I need an extra boost!
What skincare products do you guys love? Let me know what I should be trying next in the comments!
